vamos a la playa?

What I really really want is to find a half decent campsite near a beach in Sussex for a weekend away in mid-July. I love woodland camping, but also love going to the beach in the Summer. So I checked out Beach Camp sites and it only mentions Scotts Farm Camping Site and Nunnington Farm Campsite, which are both in West Wittering even though it says the Scotts Farm one is in Pevensea Bay. Sadly, neither of these campsite looks very appealing, particularly when you see the grid-like aerial photographs; and reviews about “extremely rude and abusive” staff members on Google Maps aren’t exactly inviting either.

Guess this is just the reality of the more mainstream sites, although they’re probably ideal if you have a caravan and/or want an electrical hook-up. Think I’d rather be staying somewhere which is a little less institutionalised – ideally somewhere you can have a log fire, and not just to play around with the exposure settings on my camera (see below). Shame, as I’d love to go back there. We had a cottage on the other side of Chichester Harbour when I was a kid, and one of my earliest memories is going over to East Head by boat and playing around in the dunes. The beaches are also extremely unspoiled thanks to the National Trust and West Wittering Estate, and it’s a great location for water sports, such as wind and kite surfing. Maybe I’ll just take a look on a day trip in the Summer. In the meantime, looks like the other options are Bay View Park in Pevensey Bay or The Caravan and Camping Club site in Normans Bay. Might need to take a quick trip to the Cleveland Arms to see if any of the locals has any recommendations.
