There was me thinking that most marinas round the world were filled with floating caravans masquerading as yachts and boats, and then my architect mate Julian Cripps shows me an example of an actual floating caravan. Now I’m not normally one to agree with Jeremy Clarkson but I’m not one for caravans unless they...

Thanks to 2_camping for pointing out this mad, but fun Cricket trailer from ex-NASA architect Garrett Finney. Not sure what shipping costs would be from US, but they are built to order and cost up to $17,000. Not completely sure about the shower set-up though. Looks like the floor could get very very wet...

I’ve been trying to add this post ever since visiting the ‘secret’ site at South Allington House near where I’m staying in Devon. Frustratingly, the broadband has been so intermittent over the last few days that I haven’t been able to upload all the photos. In fact, we have the BT engineer round at...

As mentioned yesterday, I encountered another ‘secret’ campsite while having a cream tea at South Allington House while down here in Devon. It’s funny because The Sunday Times recently published a Top 20 Campsite List, which had an elitist ‘Camping Manifesto’ that was anti-caravan. Bet they weren’t thinking of the kind of vintage caravans...

As Dr Terry Young from the Department of Geography & Anthropology at California State Polytechnic University explained to me recently, camping is a pilgrimage to the sacred center (nature) “out there” and a common aspect of pilgrimage is a reduction, or even a disappearance, of the social distinctions of everyday life as the pilgrims...

After over a week since my hill bashing on the bike, my leg is finally beginning to feel a whole lot less painful. So I thought I take a stroll in order to get some exercise, and was amazed at just how many camper vans and motor homes there were in spitting distance of...

I don’t know if it’s being unfaithful, but as much as I love my new Bell Tent, I’ve always fancied a vintage trailer from the US. They’re probably totally impractical for the roads here, and not sure our new Grand Scenic could tow one and that’s if we even had someone to park it....

Perhaps the questions mentioned in my But is it camping post? about the ontology of camping that Ivan and I started to ask yesterday will be answered in Charlie Hailey‘s Campsite: architectures of duration and place. It was recommended to me by Dr Terence Young as something to read if you’re more interested in...

Mark from KamperHire has just pinged me to say that he’s got two T5 Kamper Vans available for mini-breaks this weekend at a very decent discount. Any takers?

Found some more info on the Delphin 110 Hydrofoil and although there’s quite a bit lost in Google Translation, it seems like this addition never really went into mass production because its max speed of 50 kph from a 7.5 horsepower engine made the ‘folding boat’ faster than any owned by the border police...
